Glenn Beck and Fox News may get a divorce

So Glenn Beck “can live without Fox News” and Fox News is contemplating life without Beck. David Carr says,

“The problem with “Glenn Beck” is that it has turned into a serial doomsday machine that’s a bummer to watch.

Mr. Beck, a more gifted entertainer than most cable hosts, can still bring it, lighting up with characters and voices. But much of the time, there is sense that the fatigue from always being on alert, tilting forward in the saddle against the next menace, is starting to wear him down.”

Really, David. Gifted? You enjoy that Kermit voice? For the majority of us not in assisted living, Beck is a “bummer” to watch for so very many reasons besides his daily forecasts of the “Perfect Storm” — the Kermit voice being one, the glasses and chalkboard props being another. The hate he spreads daily is the main reason. What you see as gifted the rest of the world sees as super stupid on a good day, and borderline dangerous to his unstable fan base on a bad day.

The people who take Beck seriously are the 2 million or so loyal “diehards” who, I have a feeling, don’t get out much. In other words, the attendants where they live probably have the public TVs on Fox News 24/7.

The bright side to all of this is that Fox’s / Beck’s viewers aren’t getting any younger. Fox News is a plague and Beck is one of the main carriers. If Beck leaves Fox, the infection will just find a new way to spread. As long as it continues to spread mainly to older generations, eventually we’ll be okay.
