Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz: 100+ Fellow CEOs To Start Hiring and Stop Giving to Campaigns

I have mixed feelings on this:

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz: 100+ Fellow CEOs To Start Hiring and Stop Giving to Campaigns

Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) Chief Executive Officer Howard Schultz said more than 100 business leaders have joined his pledge to boycott U.S. political campaign donations.

AOL Inc. (AOL) CEO Tim Armstrong, J.C. Penney Co. CEO Myron Ullman, Whole Foods Market Inc. Co-CEO Walter Robb and others have agreed to accelerate hiring and halt campaign giving to incumbents in Washington until Congress finds a solution to the nation’s growing debt, Starbucks said in an e-mailed statement.

Schultz is taking his campaign to the Internet and to Facebook today with the creation of Upward Spiral, “a platform for action inspired by the letter to America from Howard Schultz,” according to the website.

I’m not sure about this idea. Of course, Teaparty Republican business owners, multinational corporations, and the wealthy will continue to donate to the GOP candidates… they’re not creating any jobs! So maybe we’ll wind up with more Starbucks baristas and more Republicans in Congress?

  2. Howard Schultz, Starbucks, and the rest of corporate America are so far up the Democratic party’s *(*. Barack Obama took a full contribution from Schultz and the Starbucks machine. As a matter of fact, Howard Schultz and his Corporate Giant, Starbucks, gave 80% of their campaign contributions to Democrats. I think the only problem with the GOP is that they do not have a publicist machine that matches that of the Democrats. The Dems have the rest of America believing that they are not completely beholden to corporate America. The facts are simple…look at Howard Schultz’s campaign contributions. Only 1% to the Republican Party. See it for yourselves.

I do not need to waste my time or yours. Whoever wrote this post is a hack. Pure emotion. Probably educated to some degree, but he/she is only taking advantage of the uneducated herd.

    • The article came from Bloomberg and my comment on the article, the last paragraph, is where I say I don’t think it’s a good idea. Why? Because Starbucks generally is a contributor to Democrats. Duh. Howard Schultz surely isn’t going to influence GOP contributors to stop giving money to Republicans and create jobs instead.

Further, the “Related” link below that paragraph is titled: “The plan to not contribute to political campaigns by Starbucks CEO: BAD idea”

I’m not sure who you think didn’t know the “big” secret about Democrats receiving campaign contributions — pretty sure we’re all aware. I suppose you think Democrats shouldn’t accept any contributions while Republicans continue to rake it in?

      • Not at all my friend…just as long as you can see that the coin is identical, no matter what side it lands on. No harm, no foul. And I mean that honestly. My best.
