American Hispanics don’t like the word “Republican” — but apparently they’ll vote for anyone if you choose a better word:
Point:
George Rodriguez, president of the San Antonio Tea Party: “Whenever the word ‘Republican’ is used, it was almost like an automatic wall that falls. Yet when we used the word ‘conservative,’ people were more responsive.”
Counterpoint:
Rebecca Acuna, a spokeswoman for the Texas Democratic Party: “It’ll be hard for Republicans to convince Latinos that they want them in their party when they don’t even want them in this country.”
Another tip: It’s probably not a good idea to call yourselves the “the White Man’s Party” or talk about how white Americans are an endangered species either.
