Teaparty leader: if Republicans want the Hispanic vote, don’t use the word “Republicans”

American Hispanics don’t like the word “Republican” — but apparently they’ll vote for anyone if you choose a better word:

Point:

George Rodriguez, president of the San Antonio Tea Party“Whenever the word ‘Republican’ is used, it was almost like an automatic wall that falls. Yet when we used the word ‘conservative,’ people were more responsive.”

Counterpoint:

Rebecca Acuna, a spokeswoman for the Texas Democratic Party“It’ll be hard for Republicans to convince Latinos that they want them in their party when they don’t even want them in this country.”

Another tip: It’s probably not a good idea to call yourselves the “the White Man’s Party” or talk about how white Americans are an endangered species either.
