  1. What did OPEC get for a barrel of crude during that same time frame? Why was OPEC cutting the World supply and how much influence does the White House have on OPEC? How much was a gallon of gas in Europe at that time? What was the reaction from the Bush Administration and what was the price as a result when he left office a few months later. Deceptions include not having all the facts when making desparaging statements!!

  2. I don’t see that as a desparaging statement. I see it as just a statement. All the things you indicate Mr Bufoon are always taken into account by sensible people. We are quick to lay blame at a president’s feet for gas prices, but I think they have little power of discourse to manipulate/regulate such things. Ultimately it’s OPEC and the market that dictates such things. I think GWB could have been a better bargainer for oil – at least from Iraq after our occupation. As much money as we have been dumping into that country in a meaningless war – we should have been able to leverage an agreement to relieve us of the debt of such a foolish endeavor.and pass it on the to the american taxpayer.

    • Invading a country to take its natural resources is against international law, so Bush’s plan to take it was already illegal on top of every other raison d’guerre that was a lie going in. Granted, the Neocons were trying to rewrite Iraq’s Petroleum Laws under a puppet regime to lock out independent Iraqi development, but that’s another discussion.

    • Bush wasn’t smart enough to do that…oil companies make about a 10% profit off of a barrel of oil…so do the math…what do you think they want $60 or $120?
Gas is American #1 domestic export because we have a glut in gas so we found other countries to keep the prices high…China!

  3. This just isn’t true. When Obama took office gas in the US was about $1.80 a gallon, it’s not as though Bush left office with gas at $4, as you imply.

You’ve just taken the highest spike gas reached at the height of the global crude problem – July 7, 2008—Crude oil prices settled-in at a new record of $147 per barrel. The U.S. average price for regular gasoline climbs to an all-time high of $4.11 per gallon.

Sure, this was under GWB’s presidency, but it’s not as though either president really has much control over what is a global market controlled by a cartel, and market forces.

The whole ‘which president is worst for gas price rises’ argument is pointless and spurious, but at least use the correct figures. Let the GOP and their media allies do the bullshitting, the Democrats shouldn’t have to.

  4. Guys, the graphic is to get your attention about the issue. The LINK is intended to give you the full story / all the information about this issue. You all clicked “GOP Deceptions About Gas Prices” above and read the story, right?

  5. back in 2001.. gas was 99 cent.. the cheap stuff.. 2006 was above $3. for cheap stuff.. I know this fact because of my first car ( you don’t forget your first car or what the price of gas was when you had it)

  6. All lies. When Bush left, meaning Obama took office it was $1.81. Typical liberal. Can’t tell the truth about anyting.

    • Yeah because the need for oil went down the toilet. Since jobs started to decline! Jobs are picking up so now people want more oil. And gas was in some spots below a dollar in 2001. Then got up to over $4 a gal half way through Bush’s term. So is it really lies or you don’t want to hear the truth. It’s the big wig GOP guys who have a hand in the oil business that should be looked at for what is going on. And open back up the refineries that were shut down while Bush was in office!

  7. ha! The Bush oil spike ($4+) partially was to blame to the leadup to the economic implosion, The plummet of oil prices was due to the lack of DEMAND… because the economy was collapsing and was shit,

“The Bush administration’s ties to oil and gas are as deep as an offshore well. President George W. Bush’s family has been running oil companies since 1950. Vice President Dick Cheney spent the late ’90s as CEO of Halliburton, the world’s largest oil services company. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice sat on the board of Chevron, which graced a tanker with her name. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans was the CEO of Tom Brown Inc. — a natural gas company with fields in Texas, Colorado and Wyoming — for more than a decade.

The links don’t end with personnel. The bin Laden family and other members of Saudi Arabia’s oil-wealthy elite have contributed mightily to several Bush family ventures, even as the American energy industry helped put Bush in office. Of the top 10 lifetime contributors to George W.’s war chests, six either come from the oil business or have ties to it, according the Center for Public Integrity.”

  8. Chad, since the economy is now worse, how come the demand and the price hasn’t dropped?
Bush announced that he was going to remove restrictions on ocean drilling in July 2008. If he was “in cahoots” with the oil companies, he would never had made that announcement.

The price of oil and therefore gas plummeted to around 1.80 a gallon by November. Get your facts straight. The gas prices are easy to find anywhere on the web.

  9. The lobs have one answer to everything: IT’s not our fault. Grow up and take responsibility for your actions.

  10. Just think of all oil that could have been saved if we didn’t go to war with Iraq. Just a thought. Seems to be allot of fuel wasted for jeeps, hummers, helicopters, and jets looking for those so called WMD’s over there!

  11. Gasoline prices under Obama have increased more than 250% with no relief in sight. We haven’t even hit the summer driving season yet. Some cities like Chicago and L.A. gasoline is up over three hundred percent. Average price of gasoline under Obama more than twice as much as average price under Bush. Obama supporters want to compare prices to one short period of Bush Presdency while ignoring the price for the entire Obama presidency.

  12. Now I have seen some doozies of Liberal lies in my time but this one takes the cake.

  13. Forget the politics… Do not ignore the facts!!! lets just look at the ACTUAL charts to settle your argument. And if you want to be real fair (because it looks even worse if you use the entire George Bush presidency) lets just look at 4 year terms. ($ amounts within pennies)
FACT: April 2004 – gas price average in US $1.70
September 2008 – gas price average in US $4.12 – all time high to this day.
November 2008 – just in time for election – gas price average in US $1.60
Within weeks of election prices started heading upward to…
January 2009 – gas price average in US $1.85
Today we are around $3.85 (still not the highest ever)… BUT, if history repeats itself we will all get a reprieve come election time so that ALL our beloved leaders, from both parties, can take credit for “saving” us poor slobs that vote for them!
