Chinese Space Station Transits the Sun
China’s “Heavenly Palace,” an experimental space station launched last September, sprints past the sun. French photographer Thierry Legault captured the shot of Tiangong-1 on May 11. He had to work fast, as the transit lasted just 0.9 seconds. The module, which circles the Earth at 16,500 mph, is seen passing across the solar disk not too far from the giant sunspot AR1476.
