Mitt Romney is doing the GOP / Teaparty proud while he tries to create some foreign policy bona fides by visiting “three of the most consistently pro-American countries in the world — the U.K., Israel, and Poland.”
When he arrived in London Wednesday night, “Romney told U.S. reporters that he had doubts about his host country’s readiness for the London Olympics. “It is hard to know just how well it will turn out,” he said, calling the government’s efforts “disconcerting” and questioning whether the British people would “come together and celebrate the Olympic moment.”"
How’d that go over?
At a pre-Olympics rally, before a crowd of about 60,000 cheering people, Boris Johnson, Mayor Of London said: “There are some people who are coming from around the world who don’t yet know about all the preprations we’ve done to get London ready in the last seven years. I heard there’s a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we’re ready. Are we ready? Yes we are!” To top it off, Johnson finished his appearance by leading the crowd in a chant of ‘Yes We Can,’ President Barack Obama’s famous campaign slogan from 2008. “Can we put on the greatest Olympics games that have ever been held? Can we beat France? Yes we can! Can we beat Australia? Yes we can!”

British Prime Minister David Cameron said: “We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course, it’s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.”
To which the mayor of Salt Lake City responded: “We’d love to have him and are happy to send a map so he doesn’t run into any trouble locating the middle of nowhere.”
The Atlantic reports that “The famously vicious British press is taking it from there, with every major paper running a story playing up Cameron’s rebuttal. The Daily Mail ran the headline, “Who invited him? US presidential hopeful Mitt Romney questions British public’s appetite for the Games during visit to London.” The Guardian is running a liveblog of the “gaffe” and its fallout on their site, trouncing on every public rebuke and even noting what they call “another blunder” with Romney’s comment that he had met with the head of the MI6 spy agency, the existence of which is not supposed to be publicly acknowledged.”
To top it off, an excerpt from Romney’s 2010 book, “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness,” resurfaced yesterday:
“England is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn’t make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn’t been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler’s ambitions.” — Mitt Romney, from his book “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness.”
Here you go, London (and the rest of the world): Romney is the perfect symbol of the Republican Party in America. On a positive (?) note, grab some popcorn — this promises to be a very entertaining show.

America is judged by the high profile people they send around the world, Mr Romney is undoing a lot of that work. Is the reason the Republicans follow a policy of isolationism that they do not know very much about the rest of the world?
