Total Recall 2012: ignore if you don’t like SF movies

Went to see Total Recall yesterday and we liked it. The special effects were great, but the levitating car chases were probably a bit too long. And with all the seemingly unnecessary screen time her character got after the first or second act, you’d think Kate Beckinsale’s husband was directing. I liked Colin Ferrell as the character Douglas Quaid / Carl Hauser better than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Unfortunately, the 1990 Total Recall did a better job of confusing reality for the audience — what was real, what was a memory, what really happened. That was the point of the place “Rekall.”

And even though TD 2012 didn’t feature Mars at all, as in PKD’s original story and the 1990 version, I thought this more political storyline of conflict over power and land between the United Federal of Britain with its synthetic police force and the Resistance was a good stand alone version anyway.

Plus, seriously : )

If you’ve seen it, what did you think?
