Truth through sarcasm…

“…I’m the primary reason the Republican Party lost. And I am, by the way, the primary reason the Republican Party will keep losing, until I am denounced by the Republican Party.” Rush Limbaugh, 11/13/12

It’s not just you, Rush. It’s Fox too.

Shield your mind, right wing citizen!

It’s not Orwellian (or self-serving) at all for conservative media to urge supporters to only listen to conservative media.

David Frum: “This is pretty funny. The conservative Media Research Center has posted a public letter urging supporters not to listen to non-conservative media.

“Exposure to diverging views: no telling where that might lead. The risk is high and real that listeners may well find the New York Times more credible than Fox News.

“But that’s not the funny part. The funny part is that MRC is announcing with pride that their letter urging conservatives to forswear non-conservative sources of information has been signed by Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin. Of course it has! If you’re selling high-fructose soda, you hate to see your customers wasting stomach space on milk and orange juice.

It’s no wonder that some people in America are completely insane: a steady diet from the “fever swamp of crazed conspiracy theories and shockingly offensive rhetoric…[of] obscure right-wing websites and viral e-mail chains,” supplemented daily with Fox “news” and AM hate-radio. And now self-censorship.

The base rubes on the far right are living in a kind of Twilight Zone state of pleasurable self-hypnosis. Instead of becoming even a little bit alarmed when their preferred media (propaganda outlet) tells them to censor the information they receive, they just lean back and slowly nod their heads… listening with half-closed eyes.

Defending Willard Romney: The Cream of the Rightwing Extremist Crop

John Cassidy | The New Yorker: So far, just about the only statements of support Romney has managed to elicit have come from discredited neocons (Bill Kristol, Liz Cheney), paleo-cons (Donald Rumsfeld, John Bolton), and nutty-cons (Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint). Meanwhile, John McCain and Condoleezza Rice, arguably the G.O.P.’s two most influential voices on foreign policy, have conspicuously failed to criticize Obama, while paying tribute to Ambassador Chris Stevens, the longtime foreign-service officer who was killed.

Kaili Joy Gray | DKos: That giant catastrophe of a statement from Mitt Romney about the attack in Libya? And his follow-up catastrophe of a public statement that just made it worse? Yeah, well, you might think it demonstrated just how not-ready-to-be-president Mitt Romney is, but you’d be wrong. Because the real leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, says so:

Mitt Romney, who is the only guy that looked presidential in all of this, who had the guts to go out and characterize this statement from the embassy accurately.  And the media is now saying that Romney jumped the gun, launched a political attack before the facts of the embassy violence were known, and then issues a vague foreign policy vision.

Sure, Rush. It is interesting to note what Rush was saying about his presidential-looking candidate on Monday, 9/10, though:

…I hate to tell you this. I mentioned this on the air some time ago. Romney, the best thing he can do is remember this election isn’t about him. He may as well be Elmer Fudd as far as we’re concerned. We’re voting against Obama. I don’t care who they put on the ticket, we’re voting against Obama. That has not changed, and there are more people now than in 2010 who are gonna vote against Obama. — Media Running Campaign To Dispirit You | RealClearPolitics

The President’s speech is moved & the RNC / Romney campaign frantically spin

I can’t imagine how disappointing THIS would be:

Democrats moving President Obama’s speech to Time Warner Cable Arena — CHARLOTTE, N.C. President Barack Obama will now deliver his acceptance speech Thursday at Time Warner Cable Arena after forecasts about severe weather led officials to move the event out of Bank of America Stadium.

The switch means the approximately 65,000 members of the public who received community credentials for the stadium event won’t be allowed to go inside the arena, which the DNC has said is holding about 15,000 for the convention.

Instead, the arena seats will be limited to delegates and convention officials, according to the Obama campaign.

Campaign officials promised a Thursday conference call between Obama and the 65,000 people no longer able to attend his speech. And they said they’re working on an event where the president would be able to meet with the credential holders before the election, though no date or location was announced.

On Wednesday, the Democratic National Convention Committee said officials had monitored weather forecasts in deciding whether to move the speech from the football stadium. With several reports predicting thunderstorms on Thursday, officials decided to relocate the event “to ensure the safety and security of our delegates and convention guests,” convention CEO Steve Kerrigan said in a news release.

The National Weather Service, who have been briefing convention organizers and others about forecasts this week, said the number of thunderstorms on Thursday could be fewer than what has hit the region in the past few days. But forecasts showed there was a slight, 2-to-5 percent chance of severe thunderstorms developing during the day that could produce either winds of at least 58 miles-per-hour or hail measuring at least one-inch in diameter.

Even if the storms don’t reach severe level, meteorologists said there still is a possibility for cloud-to-ground lightening.

And let’s just go ahead and admit the obvious right here: no one normal – no normal man (or woman – especially) – listens to Rush Limbaugh regularly. If you do, I’m sorry to break it to you, but something’s very wrong. Here’s how El Douchebaugh interprets the venue change:

Limbaugh: Venue Change For Obama Speech Means He Can’t Fill “Black Panther Stadium” (audio)

And from the Romney campaign — well known for its honesty (and for its no-bump-for-Mitt convention):

On Wednesday, the Republican National Committee quickly reacted to the decision with an emailed statement to reporters:

“Enthusiasm for President Obama is so low that he’s being forced to downgrade his convention events left and right,” said RNC spokesman Matt Connelly. “First the DNC had to cancel their opening event at Charlotte Motor Speedway due to low enthusiasm, now President Obama is being forced to move his acceptance speech to a smaller venue just to avoid the embarrassment of speaking to an empty stadium. After four years of failure on the economy, it’s clear that Americans are looking for actual solutions, not another speech full of empty promises.”

Considering that Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech came in second in viewers on the final night of the RNC to TLC’s Honey Boo Boo Child Show (or whatever it’s called), I believe the psychological term for this is called transference.

According to Nielsen overnight ratings, TLC’s controversial reality show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” drew 2.9  million viewers Wednesday night at 10 p.m. In second place: Fox News’ coverage of the Republican National Convention, to which 1.2 million adults tuned in.

But yeah… no one likes Obama anymore. How many Republican kneejerk base voters, dittoheads, dullards, and rubes will believe the President couldn’t fill 70,000 seats? YEP — ALL OF THEM. They really, really, really need to believe it.

LOL Romney’s tax returns

via: truth-has-a-liberal-bias

Listen tea party Republican conservative fundagelicals: you would never ever let Pres. Obama get away with this kind of secrecy. It’s time you let YOUR presidential candidate know that he needs to show the American people at least 10 years worth of tax returns. And the only reason it hasn’t happened yet is because he’s hiding something. We get to ask what he’s hiding and expect to find out. And don’t even try to compare fake “birth certificate” or college transcript conspiracies with Romney’s tax returns.

Steve Benen asks, incredulously“Reince Priebus thinks questions about Romney’s secret tax returns are as legitimate as questions about Obama’s college transcripts?”

“As a purely objective matter, there are important unanswered questions about Romney’s offshore finances, controversial investments, unanswered questions about his individual retirement account that somehow ended up with more than $100 million, and claims about his business that contradict SEC filings. Romney himself promised to “go back and look” at these returns to look at the tax rates he paid — a promise he’s apparently already broken.

“These are legitimate areas of inquiry in a presidential race. Donald Trump’s wild-eyed conspiracy theories are not. That Priebus can’t tell the difference is discouraging.”

No. No, of course Priebus doesn’t believe they’re both legitimate areas of inquiry — but what else is he going to say at this point? That’s the best aid and comfort the rightwing nutjob apologists can come up with to distract the dittoheads from really thinking about what exactly the King of Bain is hiding from them. The GOP motto might as well be ‘Vote Blind’ because that’s what they’ll be doing, willingly, if they continue to make excuses for their candidate.

Rush Limbaugh: It all went downhill when women got the right to vote

Quote

“…When WOMEN got the right to vote is when it all went downhill. Because that’s when votes started being cast with emotion and uh, maternal instincts that government ought to reflect…”

Rush Limbaugh, 07/03/2012 (via: bobbycaputo)

What rightwing domestic terrorism?

“You may call tyranny a mandate or you may call it a tax, but it still is tyranny and invites the same response. If we refuse to obey, we will be fined. If we refuse to pay the fine, we will in time be jailed. If we refuse to report meekly to jail, we will be sent for by armed men. And if we refuse their violent invitation at the doorsteps of our own homes we will be killed — unless we kill them first. … I am on record as advocating the right of defensive violence against a tyrannical regime.” — Mike Vanderboegh, the ex-militia blogger…recently predicted that if the Supreme Court declared the health care reform bill to be constitutional, it would lead to violent insurrection against “government tyranny.”

Your Second Amendment right to bear arms gives you no right to use violence against those you disagree with.

TGIF morning’s 6 ambiguously interesting things

1) Democrats / President Obama

  • A snip from the documentary of Bill Clinton on Obama’s decisions re: Detroit and OBL:
  • Obama Pressures Congress on Oil Subsidies - In the most spirited defense yet of his record on energy policy, President Barack Obama today dismissed his critics as playing politics by promising cheap gas without real solutions, and asked his supporters to pressure Congress to end subsidies for oil companies. At an event in Largo, Md., Obama said people “running for a certain office, who shall go unnamed” have been “talking down new sources of energy” and have dismissed his plan to double vehicle mileage standards by 2025. “I guess they like gas guzzlers,” he said. Obama said he expects Congress to vote in the next few weeks on ending subsidies for oil companies. “It is time for this oil industry giveaway to end,” he said. “I guess you can stand up for the oil companies … or you can stand up for the American people.” The president said the $4 billion a year in oil industry subsidies could be redirected to other sources of energy.

2) The Republican War on Women

  • Dems Hammer PA Governor Over Ultrasound Comments - Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R) offered up some advice for women who don’t want to have a mandatory ultrasound before they terminate their pregnancy: Don’t look at it. Now Democrats are pouncing, holding up the line as evidence of the GOP’s continuing insensitivity toward women. The quote in question came after Corbett was asked at a press conference whether “making [women] watch” an ultrasound went “too far.” “I don’t know how you make anybody watch,” Corbett said. “You just have to close your eyes.”
  • Religious liberty not under attack in America, says majority - Another poll, another confirmation that the GOP’s narrative that their attack on women’s health is really all about religious liberty has sunk like a lead balloon. The Public Religion Research Institution asked a random sample of 1,007 adults 18 years of age or older whether religious liberty was under attack in the United States, and whether government-mandated birth control coverage was part of that threat. And the American public said, “are you kidding?” Washington, DC— On the heels of a months-long heated debate on religious liberty, a new national survey finds that a majority (56%) of Americans do NOT believe that the right of religious liberty is being threatened in America today. Roughly 4-in-10 (39%) believe religious liberty is under attack.
  • Bishops hold meeting, decide they still hate women’s health care - This week, the Administrative Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), led by Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York and the president of the bishops’ conference, met to decidewhether they still hate women’s health care. Guess what? They do! In a statement issued by the committee, the bishops insisted that they are “strongly unified and intensely focused” in their “opposition to the various threats to religious freedom.” Religious freedom, as we all know by now, means their right to demand that women be denied access to health care the bishops don’t like. The bishops then proceed to do some serious false-witness-bearing: This is not about access to contraception, which is ubiquitous and inexpensive, even when it is not provided by the Church’s hand and with the Church’s funds. First, yes, this is about access to contraception. Second, no, it is not inexpensive. Third, no one is requiring the Church to provide it. And fourth, no one is forcing the Church to pay for it. But the lies don’t end there…

3) Your 2012 GOP presidential candidates

  • Romney Campaign Dings Santorum: No, Puerto Ricans Don’t Have To Stop Speaking Spanish - On Wednesday, Santorum told the Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero that islanders would have to be fully proficient in English, in order to genuine integrate into the main American culture — and he said, to comply with federal law — in order to be granted statehood if they wanted it.In fact, there is no federal law, either in the Constitution or current federal statutes, establishing English as a required official language of government business in order to qualify for statehood. (Though in the past, Congress did make such a requirement for statehood in 1811 for Louisiana, where French was widely spoken, and also in 1906 regarding the Native American languages spoken in areas of Oklahoma.) But the fact remains that Spanish is the primary language of Puerto Rico, and will continue to be so as a cultural fact for the foreseeable future.
  • The ‘Oops, Just Kidding’ Endorsement - Former Puerto Rican Sen. Oreste Ramos announced Thursday that he was rescinding his support for Santorum after the presidential candidate said Puerto Rico would have to adopt English as its primary language if the territory were to ever gain statehood. “Although such a requirement would be unconstitutional, and also would clash with our sociological and linguistic reality, as a question of principle I cannot back a person who holds that position,” Oreste said, according to the San Juan newspaper Vocero. “As a Puerto Rican and Spanish-speaking U.S. citizen, I consider the position of Mr. Santorum offensive.”
  • Stephen Colbert’s hilarious commentary on Santorum and Puerto Rico (and Santorum and everything else):
  • Rahm Emanuel to Romney: ‘If You Can’t Stand up to Rush, How Are You Going to Stand up to Russia?’ - “Now I’m not going to give advice to Republicans. They don’t take it and I don’t want to give it. They’ll make whatever decision they want to make,” Emanuel said at an event Thursday morning in Chicago. “You just take a look at the fortitude, the strength, the determination and the vision the president made on the auto industry and juxtapose it to Mitt Romney, who doesn’t have the fortitude, the strength or the character in my view to stand up to Rush Limbaugh. How can he stand up and make a decision to save 1.3 million manufacturing jobs? “That Oval Office requires vision. That Oval Office requires spine. That Oval Office requires determination and grit. Mitt Romney says, ‘Let it go.’ The president said the American workers are too important to let go, and he doubled down on the American workers. When a decision comes to the Oval Office, who’s got the fortitude, who’s got the grit, who’s got the determination and who’s got the back of the American people and middle-class families? And nothing coming into that Oval Office is easy. It’s not clear. And I think when you see the character, the fortitude and the strength measured up, and the determination to reject conventional wisdom and see around the corner what’s right for the American middle class, people who work every day, play by the rules, you’ll see the difference of the two individuals and their vision for America.”

4) The 21st Century Republican (tea)Party / New American Theocracy

  • Arizona Makes Another Attempt At Government Birtherism - Without saying as much, Arizona officials are working on yet another birther bill. This is the latest of several attempts by the state to try to prove the myth that Obama is not an American citizen. This time, an Arizona legislative committee is pushing a measure that would require presidential candidates to fill out an eligibility form before they can be put on Arizona’s ballot.
  • Arizona Birther Bill – The Birthers Are Strong in This One - I’m in sunny Arizona for a couple of days and, boy howdy, is the wingnut strong out here. The state legislature’s Government Reform Committee — yeah, that one had me on the floor, too — yesterday reported out a birther measure that was probably inspired by the comic stylings of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s “investigation” of the president’s origins. [...] “Yesterday,” said Democratic state senator David Lujan, who was one of two votes on the committee against the measure, “I asked if this had anything to do with President Obama’s birth certificate, and they told me that Sheriff Joe’s investigation had given the idea added value. “It is frustrating. We have something like 250,000 people unemployed in Arizona, and we’re occupied with stuff like this. A lot of people, and not just Democrats, are just frustrated with the activities of the Tea Party folks. I don’t know what keeps them coming back like this. I really don’t. Not with everything else we should be addressing.”
  • WELL THIS IS SHOCKING: GOP frosh to back millionaires’ tax - Freshman Republican Rep. Rick Crawford will propose a surtax on millionaires Thursday morning, a crack in the steadfast GOP opposition to extracting more money from the nation’s top earners. The Arkansas Republican will unveil the plan during a local television interview Thursday morning, and plans to introduce legislation when the House returns next week, according to sources familiar with his thinking. Crawford will propose the additional tax— expected to be north of 2.5 percent — on individual income over $1 million as part of a broader fiscal responsibility package.
  • BOEHNER’S DO-NOTHING HOUSE PLANS TO DO EVEN LESS: Staffers: House won’t pass highway bill this month - The House will not take up the Senate’s transportation bill and its own version won’t hit the floor until mid-April at the earliest, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee aides told industry officials Thursday morning. Democrats on both sides of the Capitol are ramping up their pressure on the House after the Senate approved a two-year, $109 billion bill that garnered votes from nearly half of the Republican caucus. The general game plan over the next few weeks, as laid out by aides: continue rallying and gauging support for a five-year bill when members return to town next week. An extension of the current law, slated to expire April 1, would hit the floor sometime during the March 26 week.House members get a two-week break starting March 30 and don’t return to session until the week of April 16 — the earliest any other bill could come up for a vote, the aides said. || On Wednesday, Boehner said he “will take up the Senate bill “or something like it” this month.” Nope.

5) Misc

  • Natural Born Drillers – Paul Krugman - To be a modern Republican in good standing, you have to believe — or pretend to believe — in two miracle cures for whatever ails the economy: more tax cuts for the rich and more drilling for oil. [...] Thus Mitt Romney claims that gasoline prices are high not because of saber-rattling over Iran, but because President Obama won’t allow unrestricted drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Meanwhile, Stephen Moore of The Wall Street Journal tells readers that America as a whole could have a jobs boom, just like North Dakota, if only the environmentalists would get out of the way. The irony here is that these claims come just as events are confirming what everyone who did the math already knew, namely, that U.S. energy policy has very little effect either on oil prices or on overall U.S. employment. For the truth is that we’re already having a hydrocarbon boom, with U.S. oil and gas production rising and U.S. fuel imports dropping. If there were any truth to drill-here-drill-now, this boom should have yielded substantially lower gasoline prices and lots of new jobs. Predictably, however, it has done neither.

6) Rush “Shock Blob” Limbaugh

  • Guess who’s knocking on Rush Limbaugh’s door as his advertisers flee like rats from a sinking ship? - It’s the people behind the infamous GodHatesFags website — the Westboro Baptist Church, the most notorious gay-bashing group in America — and they’re ready to step in to keep the embattled Limbaugh on the air. “As a matter of fact, I can confirm that,” Westboro spokesman Steve Drain told Hatewatch today when asked if the church was seeking to advertise on “The Rush Limbaugh Show.” “We’re preparing our first ad at this very moment, and we’ll have a 30-second radio spot ready to go by Friday.” Drain said he has been in contact with ad executives, but added that the Westboro spots will have to be produced before they are accepted or rejected. The radio ads would be posted as audio links Friday on the church’s websites, the Westboro spokesman said. [via: ABL]
  • Struggling Clear Channel And Rush Limbaugh’s $400 Million Payday - But the truth was that for days on his flagship station, WABC in New York, Limbaugh’s show had been stripped of key advertisers. Instead, the once robust revenue-generating program had turned into a feel-good forum where during commercial breaks WABC ran nonpaid public service announcements on behalf of the United Negro College Fund and New York Office of Emergency Management. That’s because WABC didn’t feel comfortable putting lots of advertisers on Limbaugh’s show, which up and down Madison Avenue had become poisonous in this wake of his misogynistic Fluke debacle.  So towards the end of his show on Tuesday, the nine-figure salary talk show host went to commercial break and a paid advertiser did pop up. And it was a new advertiser, a sponsor who apparently had signed on amidst the controversy. The sponsor’s name? The Holy Name Cemetery in New Jersey, which was advertising a “pre-planning open house weekend.” How fitting.

Comparing Rush Limbaugh to Bill Maher is either remarkably dishonest or really stupid

For one thing, Bill Maher is a COMEDIAN! Yep, Maher has said mean things about Palin and sometimes he goes too far — but most of the time it’s funny — because that’s what he does for a living. By now, everyone who is not in a coma should understand that Maher’s a politically-based comedian who does a show on HBO (pay channel!) and stand-up comedy.

On the other hand, Rush Limbaugh is broadcast on public airwaves for three hours a day, five days a week — including taxpayer-funded Armed Forces radio (AFN) — and has been allowed to set the tone and conversation on issues affecting everyone with the GOP establishment, while he sits atop the Republican Kingdom on his Big (huge!) Royal Throne of Grandiosity. There’s absolutely no comparison. Look at the influence that the GOP has given Limbaugh:

Limbaugh and George HW Bush:

Early in the summer of 1992, Roger Ailes, who was working for President Bush, made the connection. The president invited Limbaugh to accompany him to the Kennedy Center and spend a night at the White House. Bush personally carried Limbaugh’s bag from the elevator of the White House residence to his room, a gesture Rush never forgot. That night he called his mother and brother from the Lincoln bedroom. “Guess where I’m sleeping tonight,” he said. Bush might not be Reagan, but he was the president of the United States. [page 81]

Limbaugh and Ronald Reagan:

Limbaugh proudly read the letter to his audience on the December 21, 1992, edition of his television show [via Nexis]

LIMBAUGH: “Ronald Reagan, December 11th, 1992. Dear Rush, thanks for all you’re doing to promote Republican and conservative principles. Now that I’ve re” — and lis –and listen to this, folks. Listen to this. “Now that I’ve retired from active politics, I don’t mind that you’ve become the number one voice for conservatism in our country.”

I — I mean — you know, that’s — that’s — that’s not just a, “Hey, Rush, nice to know you. Hope you enjoyed my letter,” kind of sentence. There’s a — there’s something very serious in that, and I was – I — I was so proud.

It goes on, “I know the liberals call you the most dangerous man in America, but don’t worry about it. They used to say the same thing about me. Keep up the good work. America needs to hear the way things ought to be. Sincerely, Ron.”

Limbaugh and George W Bush — RECENT history:

August 1, 2008: During his 20th anniversary show on August 1, 2008, Limbaugh received a surprise phone call from President Bush, Jeb Bush, and George H.W. Bush — “people who consider you friends and really appreciate the contribution you’ve made,” as the president put it. George H.W. Bush told Rush he was “proud of you, always,” and asked how “our man” Roger Ailes was doing. Jeb Bush told Limbaugh: “One of the great things about your show is it’s broadcast in the Sunshine State, for which a whole lot of Floridians are very grateful, including me.”

November 9, 2010: Bush’s most recent appearance (to date) was on November 9, 2010, as he was promoting his recently released memoir, Decision Points.

In the final days of the Bush presidency, Limbaugh traveled to Washington for what one of his guest hosts called a “secret meeting.” Limbaugh later revealed that the “meeting” was a private “farewell luncheon” at the White House with President Bush. As Limbaugh described it, the lunch was actually a surprise birthday party for Limbaugh, complete with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” sung by Bush and his aides, and “a little chocolate microphone.”

And the apologies, the tears, and the kissing of the ring!

  • Michael Steele
  • Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA)
  • Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS)
  • Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA)

There’s MUCH more…

So if someone tries to say that Limbaugh’s an “entertainer” or “comedian” like Maher, it won’t work. He may be absurd and ridiculous to most of us, but he’s been taken very seriously by the Republican Party for two decades.

And that rather embarrassing fact is on them.

Love Bill Maher, but he’s completely wrong on Limbaugh

From Bob Cesca:

Maher on Real Time last night:

“I don’t like it that people are made to disappear when they say something, or people try to make them disappear when they say something you don’t like. That’s America. Sometimes you’re made to feel uncomfortable, okay?”

He doesn’t get it and it pisses me off when otherwise smart people fail to get the goddamn picture. Condensed to the most concise explanation possible: Limbaugh influences the law. [...] Additionally, Limbaugh uses the public airwaves and we have a right to hold accountable anyone who borrows our property.

Continue…

Rush Limbaugh isn’t “incidental” to any political conversation. For the rightwing, he’s usually developed that conversation. The GOP establishment, out of sheer laziness and inattention, has allowed this fat fuck, this drug-abuser, this chemically-enhanced sex tourist, to not only set the tone but outline the entire discussion for their political party (and their legislation), for their very own wingnut cable news show, Fox “News,” for their “Christian” evangelical leaders (the neo-Republican Jesus crowd), and for the entire talk-radio clown car that trails behind every day, farting smoke and leaking oil everywhere.

Limbaugh defines and then mainstreams the ugliest and most vile fantasies of that select group of men who have Cheeto dust and dried seminal fluid beneath their fingernails — and whose very loud opinions, for whatever reason, seem to matter so very much to those who run our country on the conservative side.

MAYBE there would be a chance at an actual discussion on issues and solutions FOR EVERYONE if the volume on Batshitcrazyville was turned down a bit. Limbaugh is like a greasy, bloated parasite that’s been dividing and spreading across the country, worming himself into the brains of angry, resentful, terrified white men — eating intelligence and common decency — since he first claimed to have 20 million listeners in 1993. You don’t have to wonder if you’re an asshole if you’re just one in 20 million, right?

Limbaugh speaks for exactly two groups of Americans: these white men in their pickup trucks (and so, to an extent, their desperately fanatical wives) and angry shut-ins. For political expediency, the Republican Party has always run with whatever Rush says — conversations, compromise, and solutions are laughed at and shouted down with Limbaugh-coded pejoratives (feminazis! Barack the Magic Negro!) and ignorant takeaway arguments (Sandra Fluke’s a slut — she wants us to pay her to have a lot of sex!). And usually, nothing ever has to be done about the issue that was originally being discussed. Every time.

Well, not this time.

Are Rush’s “Dittoheads” real people …or scripted actors?

Well, now. Isn’t this unsurprising. There’s a service, Premiere On Call, which is a division of Clear Channel (home of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck) which takes orders for scripted actors (the voice talent) to ‘call in’ and pretend to be real people. They’ll perform however the host chooses: agreeing, pushing that day’s agenda, or acting like a stupid dirty hippie (i.e. a liberal) so the host can demonstrate how much smarter he is, etc. Most important, the “voice talent” are bound by contracts, so it’s all very confidential. [Source]

PREMIERE ON CALL, is our new custom caller service,” read the service’s website, which disappeared as this story was being reported (for a cached version of the site click here). “We supply voice talent to take/make your on-air calls, improvise your scenes or deliver your scripts. Using our simple online booking tool, specify the kind of voice you need, and we’ll get your the right person fast. Unless you request it, you won’t hear that same voice again for at least two months, ensuring the authenticity of your programming for avid listeners.”

The actors hired by Premiere to provide the aforementioned voice talents sign confidentiality agreements and so would not go on the record. But their accounts leave little room for doubt. All of the actors I questioned reported receiving scripts, calling in to real shows, pretending to be real people. Frequently, one actor said, the calls were live, sometimes recorded in advance, but never presented on-air as anything but real.

Hiring and scripting some voice talent adoring fans so your listeners will jump aboard your bandwagon. Isn’t that called propaganda?

Rush Limbaugh: firefighters, cops and teachers are now “parasites”

motherjones:

Aired Thursday morning: “All the parasites of government are now coming out of the woodwork — and that’s exactly what they are, parasites.”

Average Wisconsin public schoolteacher’s salary: $47,602.

Rush Limbaugh’s minimum annual salary: $38,000,000, plus a $100,000,000 bonus.

Parasites, indeed.

And the Dittoheads, sitting in their trucks listening to Rush, with their 1,000 yard glassy-eyed stares, nod slowly.

For Rush’s ever-loyal audience, the meaning of patriotism shifts again — the “Us” and the “Them” — because unionized workers, like firefighters, cops and teachers are now “parasites.”
