Medical examiner: Homicide victim John Wheeler died of ‘blunt force trauma’

Homicide victim John P. Wheeler III, a former Pentagon official and presidential aide whose body was discovered Dec. 31 in a Wilmington landfill, was beaten to death in an assault, the Delaware medical examiner’s office announced today.

The official cause of Wheeler’s slaying was “blunt force trauma,’’ agency spokesman Karl Kanefsky said about a case that has drawn worldwide media coverage.

Police reiterated today that the case remains under investigation but acknowledge they cannot fill in critical gaps in the murder mystery.

Within hours of the grisly New Year’s Eve discovery, state pathologists had ruled that the 66-year-old New Castle resident was a homicide victim, but until today authorities had been mum on the cause of his death — an unusual posture in Delaware, where such information is usually released promptly.

Don’t tattoo that

Not a fan of any of these body mods but I especially dislike this idea of “tattooing” the sclera (inking the white part of your eye with a tattoo needle):

I followed this link, and clicked through the corneal tattooing link and found the face / name of the guy who had this done: Josh. Josh (and friends) had done this in 2008. Curious as to whether he’d lost vision or the entire eye yet, I clicked the link for Josh which takes you his account on bmezine.com — where you find this if you page down:

2010/04/18 23:27 hello, this is tanky, or lauren, chy’s (josh, booga, blue eyes, etc) fiance. i have terrible news that i felt his friends in the body modification community should know about. josh was murdered on the morning of friday, april 16th. he was stabbed in the back once…

Police, D.A., Investigating Homicide

Updated: 11:42 am EDT April 19, 2010 …According to Adams, Joshua Rahn, 21, was stabbed to death as he tried to rob two men inside this home in the 200 block of Washington Street.

“I think this young man made a huge mistake getting involved in a planned burglary and robbery,” Adams said.

Adams said Rahn and an accomplice, Chad Miller, 20, had planned the burglary for days, hoping to steal drug money, drugs and electronic equipment from the two men living inside the house, Brandon Leonti and Warren Sperbeck.

A post from Shannon, the guy who took the original pics of Josh’s eye above: A sad and premature goodbye to Josh Rahn. Josh’s memorial was a week later. He was only 21, with a baby and a fiance! Ugh. I didn’t hate it that much.
