John Cole writes about the broken crane in NYC:
For those of you living in a cave or in one of the areas hit by power outages, the media has continued to run footage of the broken many ton crane dangling from the top of luxury condos in Manhattan… It’s basically the perfect metaphor for trickle down economics and the last three decades. A couple hundred tons of metal death will possibly rain down on the lessers on the ground, the city and taxpayers will have to clean up, and the owners of the $90 million dollar condo will be front and center on the NY Times talking about their “disaster.”

New York police will mount a major counterterrorism operation during Friday’s evening rush hour as U.S. officials rush to check credible, but unconfirmed intelligence about a 9/11 anniversary plot, a senior law enforcement official told Reuters.
The operation will involve a “big show of force” which will include officers armed with heavy weapons patrolling subways and stepped up security and bag checks at major subway and commuter train stations, including Grand Central and Pennsylvania station terminals, the official said. Law enforcement agencies in neighboring states were also involved.
“We have to be concerned. Terrorism is theater and this is a stage, right now probably the world’s biggest stage,” said New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. (Photo: Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)
“There are specifics — in that sense it was credible, but there’s no certitude. There’s no smoking gun but we do have talk about using a car bomb.” — VP Biden
There is a “specific, credible but unconfirmed report that Al Qaeda again is seeking to harm Americans and in particular to target New York and Washington.” — Sec. Clinton

The founder of the Wyoming Tyranny Response Team plans to burn a copy of the Quran on the steps of the State Capitol on Saturday. Duncan Philp said he will protest the location of a proposed Islamic Center near Ground Zero in New York City. He also will protest President Barack Obama’s support for the location.
“I feel Obama is being disingenuous when he pretends he supports religious liberties,” Philp said. “(The Muslims) are not building that mosque out of love for my culture or love of the victims of 9-11 but for political reasons.” Continued…
Muslims, Christians, Jews, atheists and Unitarians marched together through downtown and culminated in front of the State Capitol on Saturday to protest religious intolerance.
The rally was brought on by a national controversy over an Islamic center that was proposed to be built near ground zero in New York City and threats to burn the Quran. The theme of the peace demonstration, which was organized by the Cheyenne Unitarian Universalist Church, was that all religions must coexist harmoniously.
At the demonstration a Jew and Muslim stood next to one another and read verses from the Quran. “In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful,” Jason Bloomberg, a Jew, read from the Muslim holy book.
Bloomberg wore his former firefighter uniform in honor of the emergency personnel who died on 9-11. Continued…

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL):
“If we are going to talk about 9/11, why don’t we talk about how not so much the people who died on 9/11 were disgraced by the possibility of an Islamic athletic center several blocks away — how about the fact that they were disgraced by a president who let it happen? Who went on vacation for the entire month of August after he was warned in writing that Osama bin Laden was actually finding targets in NYC and learning how to take these planes and do terrible things with them? The thing itself said ‘hijacking’ and they did nothing about it.”
