Yesterday in an Iowa grocery store: Newt Gingrich’s ego met reality

Clean up on aisle four!

When a man in a camouflage coat grabs your hand in an Iowa grocery store and calls you ‘a fucking asshole’ to your face, it might be time to take stock of your position in the state.

For Newt Gingrich, who was on the receiving end of the unorthodox greeting Tuesday, it was a sign that his campaign is returning to earth after having rocketed since Herman Cain’s collapse.

Ouch!  That was definitely a two-dozen-donut-and-gallon-of-ice-cream remark for Newt if ever there was one. Luckily, he was already in a grocery store.

And btw, Newt isn’t JUST a fucking asshole. He’s recently revealed that he’s a crazy fascist as well:

“Just so we’re clear, this week, a leading presidential candidate articulated his belief that, if elected, he might (1) eliminate courts he doesn’t like; (2) ignore court rulings he doesn’t like; and (3) take judges into custody if he disapproves of their legal analyses.

I hope it’s unnecessary to note that Gingrich’s vision is stark raving mad.

I’ll just conclude with this observation: Newt Gingrich believes Barack Obama is a wild-eyed fanatic, guided by an extremist ideology, hell bent on overseeing a radical overhaul of the American system of government.

The irony is rich.”Steve Benen

Newt wants to be elected Dear Leader of America

Apparently Newt Gingrich gives not one flying fuck about the Constitution or the ‘checks and balances’ as envisioned by our Founding Fathers:

[On Sunday's Face the Nation, Newt railed] that “activist judges” who make disagreeable decisions should be held accountable before Congress, he told Bob Schieffer that he would send a U.S. Marshal or Capitol Police officer to arrest judges if that’s what it took to reign them in, and then encourage impeachment:

SCHIEFFER: One of the things you say is that if you don’t like what a court has done, that Congress should subpoena the judge and bring him before Congress and hold a Congressional hearing… how would you enforce that? Would you send the Capitol Police down to arrest him?

GINGRICH: Sure. If you had to. Or you’d instruct the Justice Department to send a U.S. Marshal.

Great! The Ging thinks that judicial decisions he doesn’t agree with are ‘anti-American’ and ‘dictatorial’ and would just ignore rulings he doesn’t like. That reminds me of *cough* fascism! *cough*  If the Grand Ol’ Teaparty isn’t embarrassed by this … nevermind. I’m sure they’re not. Here’s what interesting, though, as Charles Johnson aptly points out:

…if we apply Gingrich’s own supposed standard for presidential review to the health care question, President Obama could simply declare the issue to be extraordinary and ignore the court’s ruling. The howls that would come from the GOP and the conservative base that Gingrich is courting in the 2012 election season would never be louder than if the President simply ignored a court ruling the health care law was unconstitutional because the President simply thought that the health care law was an extraordinary situation. Gingrich would probably be the first to claim that President Obama should be impeached for ignoring the Court.

I hear North Korea is looking for a new Supreme Leader. Maybe Newt can move his campaign over there.
